This page is history. Written on the day I started this project. It remains simply because my own sentimentality prevents me from chucking it... and, well I guess it's tangible proof that this actually DID start somewhere, some place in time... April 5th, 6th or 7th if I am not mistaken. Grabbing the inspiration to do it... all over again... OCA before the D

I used to dream of 1,000 sq ft... then 2,000, 3, 4, 5... abandoned warehouse spaces, replete with wood shop and welders tools. I dreamed of beds tucked in the corners n' couches for coffees with comrades... each on our own missions...
Today's heroic studio remains in my mind... and right in front of me... a chair, pen and pad on which to work... Big white rooms in mind... to be filled... forward to 1980... 1981... 1982...
2015

1979 - 1986 Revisited
[my ancient art career]

I recently had cause to re-remember a mission I'd long since abandoned... My ancient and heroic 1980's art career. Who remembers the 1980s (hands up)? Who recalls a SoHo strewn with artist studios and three art galleries on every block? The smell of turps... big white well lit rooms, walls covered with even bigger paintings... Schnabel, Basquiat... (and if I do just a simple little research, we'll list 10 more)... who "made it"? What did they make? Where did they go? Where did I go?

Now... I'll make no claim to "I coulda been somebody... I coulda been a contender..." - Nope, I'm just gonna finally get around to mounting my show... The last three pieces of art I ever obsessed over; long lost in a sketchbook I likely left behind when fleeing Brooklyn well over ten years ago; sketchbooks I'd held onto [dearly] for well over ten years, maybe closer to twenty before that...

...This being the page of the Remains, projects underway; projects never started, unfinished, never done. It seems the perfect place to mount the exhibition that never was, never will be, and likely thank goodness never should have been. Three pieces... Pulled from the pages of now discarded... remembered through what I proudly recall to be this almost bullet-proof memory of mine and finally [for whatever self-serving egotistic reasonings] mounted on these pages. My own "big white room"... Tell me, can you smell the turps?
